Shining a Ray of Hope: Follow DuaLipa’s Melodies to Brighten the Darkest Days

According to Dua Lipa, her aim was to offer some respite amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as she continues to soar in her profession by winning the Music Award at the 2020 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar.

The largest pop star in Britain has confessed that she faced a difficult decision regarding the release of her second album, Future Nostalgia, during the early stages of lockdown. However, she eventually opted to launch it, believing it could serve as a remedy for the tough times we were facing (certainly a fitting response to Miss Rona’s “Don’t Start Now”).

Dua Lipa reflects on the surreal year of 2020 in her acceptance speech as we introduce the Attitude Awards issue, available for download and order globally starting December 1st. She recalls her exhilarating performance at Mardi Gras in Sydney at the beginning of the year, where everyone was celebrating together. However, shortly after, the pandemic hit, which left her feeling confused. Despite this, she decided to release her music during the pandemic, hoping that it would provide some light in a dark time. Dua expresses her hope that her music did, indeed, bring happiness to people. Dua Lipa has had an outstanding 2020, and some might argue that it has been a “Lipa year” in more ways than one.

The album Future Nostalgia has topped the UK charts, and Dua Lipa’s virtual event Studio 2054 was a spectacular affair with guest appearances from Elton John, Kylie Minogue, and Miley Cyrus. Dua has also been nominated for six Grammys, including Best Album and Song. However, the highlight of her recent accomplishments is likely her Attitude December cover story, where she discusses being recognized as a gay icon and a true ally. In an unpublished excerpt from the interview, Dua explains that she fights for love because it should be universally expressed in whatever way one’s heart desires. She recalls her emotional response when her LGBTQ fans were removed from her concert in Shanghai in 2018 and praises their bravery. She also talks about her headlining performance with Sam Smith and Kesha at Mardi Gras before the pandemic hit.

She expresses her joy about completing the task, as it had been on her mind for quite some time. The atmosphere was filled with sweaty individuals adorned in glitter and trendy outfits, exuding positive vibes and love. However, when questioned about her upcoming music project, the artist remains tight-lipped, only giving a hint of conducting research for the era to adopt. As long as another relatable hit song about enjoying intimacy under the moonlight is produced, the LGBTQ+ community will be satisfied.
